Hike and Picnic Lunch at Woods Lake with Education about Alpine Lakes, 7/9/2012
This outing was a part of our yearly campout at Norwood.
We began our hike at the base of Woods Alpine lake. Our guide, Peter, shared education concerning the ecological importance of Alpine Lakes.
He then shared the native fish in the lake and native plants in our region. Judy Hass gave her attention to one of the children who just had heart surgery 4 weeks earlier, naming all the plants of the forest for her, as we made our way around the lake.After the hike we gathered at the base of the lake and had a picnic lunch.
Fly Fishing Lessons at Trout Lake near Telluride, 6/9/2012
This activity focused on the art of fly-fishing beginner lessons surrounded by the San Miguel Mountains, streams, and meadows with Colorado fly-fishing guides. It was a great family adventure too! Some parents brought their kids to learn alongside them. They learned the tricks and tactics of fly-fishing while being introduced to the natural world of fishing. They learned: Fly casting- the basic overhead cast, How to load the rod, Shoot line, handle the line, and manage the fish. Cleaned and cooked the catch of the day.
Cross-country skiing & Snow-shoeing with a No-Waste Potluck Brunch, 1/22/2012
We started our event with a No-Waste Potluck Brunch at 11am. Everyone was to bring a dish that they prepared and to be conscious of the trash accumulated to purchase the food they prepared. The object was to grocery shop for the food they would use for their dish and to use no plastic or paper bags for the groceries, and to also use no plastic bags for fruit and vegetables, and to use re-usable bags that are now available to buy at local groceries and are madefrom a washable mesh bag. After the brunch we had a cross-country skiing and snow-shoeingevent outside in the forest and around a lake. It was sunny and beautiful day, innature laughing and enjoying time together.
