Seattle 2012

Author: Jude Wallace

The first half of 2012 included a winter hike in January taking time after the busy holidays to enjoy and spend time in the quietness of the forest being calmed by the soft green moss covering the ground, rock and logs.  There were 5 of us, 3 of which were young adults and a dog. It was peaceful and a beautiful time with we enjoyed dinner together before returning to Seattle.

seattle2 The second outing was our global activity where members came together together to clean, clear and prepare a garden plot in a poorer part of Seattle where there has been violence in the past. We then planted seeds there for an organic neighborhood vegetable garden called Alleycat Acres. Some of the seeds were contributed by Alleycat Acres and others were brought by Sue Hart one of our gardeners. This was followed by lunch and watching the video "Bag it". seattle3There were 15 people at this event. I had 2 of my assistants collaborate in writing a review of some of the salient points from the video and have been sending them out to members via email periodically.

Our next two projects are to have a class featuring the Permaculture Principles taught by two members who attended the class on Maui and then having an experience observing some of these principles already present in nature on a hike. The second is to take a tour and do a little planting at a local biodynamic farm well established in these principles.
